The airport in a modern building with all the normal facilities that you would expect from an international airport this size.

On your walk from the airplanes holding bay you can enjoy the pictures on the wall showing the different turist attractions on the Costa del Sol. When reaching the luagage claim it can be quiet overwhelming with the big selections of properties for sales.

Practical information when arriving to Malaga airport.

Lugage claim.
This normally runs very smooth, but it is always very busy. The luggage belt in never completely empty before the luggage from the next plane arrives. Therefore you will always find a lot of people around the luggage belt. Everyone is tired after the journey, and this can cause a bit of caos.

Taxi from the airport.
The taxi rank is just outside the arrivals hall, the exit to the right. The que can be quiet long when it is high season. The spanish systems can be unpractical and it can take up to 20 minuttes before you get a taxi.
There is an editional charge for large pieces of lugage and a general airport fee. All taxi’s have a set fares, but if you fell the journey was more expensive that expectet then get a receipt and take a note of the numberplate. Taxi drivers who cheat the turist are not unheard of on the Costa del Sol.

Car rental
It is easy when you know what to expect and what to do, but you easily get confused the first time. There are three different ways to rent a car in the airport. Depending on weater the car is pre-booked or not.

1. Car rental inside the arrivals hall
Before you leave the lugage hall with the bagage claim you can turn right which takes you down a ramp to the basement. Here you find most car rental companies. Please note that you cant always go back to the luggage and car rental area once you have left this area.

2. Car rental outside the area of the airport
Some car rentals companies are located just outside the airport and therefore save a lot of money on rent. You get transportet in a minibus to the offices, and each office have  their own little shuttle bus.

3. Some car rentals deliver the carkeys to you on arrival and you always see a lot of people in the arrivals holding a sign with a name on.

Personal pickup
It is alway nice to be picked up in the airport, but be sure to have an agreement about where and when. It is possible to park in the short term car park and then wait in the arrivals area.
The more experienced travellers call friends and family when they arrive, and then co-ordinate the pickup taking into consideration the timeframe for receiveing the luggage and the exit from the airport.

You can request to be transported by the airport staff to passcontrol.

Taxi to malaga airport
It is easy to pre-book a taxi as they automatically look up the address at dispatch. This only works if you call from a landline. If it is not raining then the taxi will arrive in 5-10 min and the operator often suggests the pickup area based on the address that she sees in the database

Food
Now a days most airlines do not serve complimentary food onboard. You have plenty of oppertunities in the airport for either breakfast, lunch or dinner. (after the security area) Another option is one of the bars or Burger King which is located before the security check.
