The History of Nerja Caves
In 1959 a group of school kids found the caves in Nerja while playing in the area. Nerja is now know on the map for the caves.
The caves are on of the most spetacular underground limestone formation in Europe and has Neolithe paintings dating back to 27,000 25,000 years BC.
The caves are open to the public, and is a worth a visit. It is generally colder in the caves as there is no direct sunlight, so do remember to bring a jumper. In the caves there are many exciting different rock formations, and it is said that one of the coloums is the worlds largest.
The rock paintings are not open to the public, only photographs are displayed in the gallery. In the largest of the caves there are sometimes concerts which is proved very popular, especially because of the acoustics.

The Nerja Caves are located about 3 kilometres from Nerja town centre and is very well signposted.
