Train to Marbella
As of 2010 there are no plans to extend the rail link from Fuengirola to Marbella

Plans for train between Fuengirola - Marbella
The train to Marbella will be avoiding traffic by going underground. The line will be 36 km long, and the job is to be tendered this year. It is planned that it will run under the N-340 and will cost approx. 1,100 million euros.

The plans for the new coastal line are still running on time and Junta de Andalucia had a tender out for the first 3 projects. Out of the 3 projects, one has been cancelled which is due to the Axarquia line being replaced by a metro.

It has been confirmed that the other two are still to go ahead. The new lines are to run from Fuengirola – Los Monteros (Marbella) and Los Monteros – San Pedro.
The strech for the train line has many houses and residential development, which is why 80 % is said to be underground, though the main reason is not to affect the traffic.

The two remaining projects are now awaiting final approval from the Junta and the tendering should be done before the summer 2007.

Suggested Stations:
Fuengirola
Las Lagunas
La Cala de Mijas
Calahonda
Las Dunas
Los Monteros
-------------
Marbella
Marbella Centro
Puerto Banus
San Pedro de Alcantara

According to the pre-plans for the train line the deepest station will be Las Duna at 37 meters underground. The closest to the ground will be Las Lagunas which is 12 meter under the surface.
