The environment Department in Nerja has started work on the restauration of the Chillar riverbed where it runs through town. The first stages of the work is to be carried out by Antelo Construcciones who wiill be clearing the surrounding areas of scrub. 

Water will run along the lenght of 1.2 km from the estuary, and the area will be brought back to life environmentally speaking and become a public area. To protect the nearby streets from flooding a wall will be built for protection. The wall will be 1 meter thick and the height will vary from four to seven meters. Public pathways are to be created on top of this wall.
