The creation of the Picasso museum is due to Christine and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso’s contribution of ther collection
Christine and Bernard are daughter-in-law and grandson to Picasso and the collection comprises about 240 different pieces of work by the artist.
Their donation and the support form the government in andalucian was the ingriedients that led to the creation of the Picasso Museum Malaga (Museo Picasso Malaga).
The collection consists of paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics and prints.
History of Picasso
Picasso was born in Malaga in 1881. He painted his first picture at the early age of 10 years old . At 15 he had qualified for a place at the Barcelona School of Fine Art. During the lenght of his career he produced over 20.000 paintings, sketches and sculptures.

The real Picasso fans might also want to see the house where the great artist was born. A few blocks north-east from the cathedral is the “Plaza de la Merced” (Our Lady of Mercy Square). His birth place is on the north side of the square.
